The hop plant belongs to the hemp family and grows more than seven meters high. Depending on the variety, the flowers grow from June to August and the cones ripen from July to September. The hop plant turn up to 50 years, but the shoots sprout anew every year. There are over 70 different types of hops worldwide, whith taste from slightly sweet to bitter. Brewers classify them into bitter and aroma hops. With its bitter substances, the bitter hops provide the typical pilsner taste, among other things, while the aromatic hops give craft beer, for example, its special note.
