Breakfast in the hotel. Today we recommend a demanding tour, from the Hotel Strasshof via Ehrensberger Holz, Ilmmünster and Triefing to Scheyern Abbey.
The monastic community of the Bendictines was founded more than 900 years ago at the foot of the Wendelstein in Bayrischzell and moved from there to Scheyern in 1119. Since then, the monks have lived in this place steeped in history. Previously known as the ancestral castle of the Wittelsbach dynasty, the Kings of Bavaria. The monastery runs a number of businesses, including the monastery brewery and butchery as well as a restaurant with a brew pub and beer garden. In all its businesses, the monastery strives to promote regional cycles.
For the way back,we recommend the route via Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm. In 2011, it was the only German city so far to receive the international LivCom Award of the United Nations, and thanks to its ecological orientation, it was awarded the German Sustainability Award in 2013. In 2017, it was the venue of the "Small Bavarian Garden Show" and the parks and green spaces created for it can still be used, admired and experienced now.
Distance for the day: approx. 35 km. Approx. 400 m uphill. Approx. 400 m downhill.
Stay at Hotel Strasshof.
Breakfast at the hotel and check-out. Today's tour takes you to the village of Gütlsdorf. You drive via Güntersdorf, Aufham, Holzhäuseln, Sünzhausen, Abens, Osseltshausen, Osterwaal, Au to Gütlsdorf. This tour leads directly into the heart of the Hallertau. Whether hop gardens, small streams or shady oaks, the landscape here is unmistakable. A short detour to the Maria Hilf chapel, dreamily located in a forest clearing, is our tip for this day. The origin of the "Maria Hilf" chapel goes back to the year 1814, when grateful parents had a picture of Mary put up for the inexplicable healing of their sick child and often prayed in front of it. Word of the wonderful healing quickly got around, and soon many people seeking help started to pray in front of the beech with the image of Saint Mary. A simple small chapel was built next to the beech in 1875. Ride to Gütlsdorf and check-in at the Hotel Ostermeier.
Distance: approx. 32 km. Approx. 270 m uphill. Approx. 280 m downhill.
Luggage service: Your luggage will be transported for you.
Today's tour is a wonderful You drive from Gütlsdorf via Attenkirchen, Au in der Hallertau and Unterwangenbach to the destination of the tour: Ratzenhofen Castle.
Ratzenhofen Castle is a lovingly restored little jewel with its own castle chapel and was first mentioned in a document in 1040. Under shady chestnut trees, you can enjoy fresh beer in stone mugs in the castle's neighbouring beer garden and brass band music plays every Sunday afternoon. In addition, many events offer varied entertainment from spring to autumn. The return journey takes you via Mainburg and Rudelzhausen.
Mainburg, situated in the middle of the hop country, is considered the secret "capital" of the Hallertau. This is because the "green gold", the hops, are not only grown here, but also processed and shipped worldwide.
Distance: approx. 57 km. Approx. 310 m uphill. Approx. 310 m downhill.
Alternative route: Gütlsdorf - Au in der Hallertau - Nandlstadt - Rudelzhausen - Gütlsdorf
A shorter panoramic tour takes you partly along the so-called Bockerlradweg, which follows the former route of the Hallertau local railway, called "Bockerl". Just before Reichertshausen there is a viewing platform where you can see the hop gardens from above.
Distance: approx. 33 km. Approx. 260 m uphill. Approx. 260 m downhill
IWe recommend you make a detour to the Schlossbräukeller in Au in der Hallertau on this day. A food voucher is already included for you.
Stay at Hotel Ostermeier
Check-out, breakfast and you are on your way to Bad Gögging. The tour takes you through Volkenschwand, Pfeffenhausen, Rottenburg, Rohr, and Abensberg.
There are numerous stops along the way with things worth seeing. We recommend a stop at the Kuchelbauer in Abensberg. The Kuchlbauer wheat beer brewery, which has held the brewing right since 1300, is one of the oldest breweries in the world. Kuchlbauer's beer world is a cult place of beer that unites the themes of beer and art in a unique way. Since 2010, the Kuchlbauer Tower, an architectural project based on plans by the artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, has attracted many thousands of visitors each year. You can experience the tower "up close" on a guided tour (not included, for a fee). In addition, you can visit the KunstHausAbensberg (not included, for a fee), which was built according to plans by Peter Pelikan. In the exhibition you will get an insight into the plans, works and life of Friedensreich Hundertwasser.
Distance: approx. 60 km. Approx. 280 m uphill. Approx. 410 m downhill.
Check-in at Hotel Centurio for 2 nights.
Luggage service: Your luggage will be transported for you.
Breakfast in the hotel. Today you have the choice whether you want to take another short bike tour or prefer to spend the day with complete relaxation. Maybe a bit of both?
We recommend a short bike tour along the Danube Cycle Path via Weltenburg to Kelheim. From Kelheim you can take a boat back along the Danube to Weltenburg Monastery (boat trip not included, for a fee). This boat trip is one of the most beautiful excursions in Bavaria and takes you through the "Weltenburger Enge" nature reserve with its impressive Danube gorge. In 2020, it was awarded the title of "Bavaria's First National Natural Monument". Weltenburg Abbey was founded by itinerant monks around the year 600, making it the oldest monastic settlement in Bavaria. Around the year 800, the abbey adopted the rules of St. Benedict. Looking back on an eventful, centuries-long past, the Weltenburg monastery brewery can proudly call itself the oldest monastery brewery in the world. And in the beer garden belonging to it, you can wonderfully enjoy one of the award-winning beers made here.
Distance: 19 km. 220 m uphill. 230 m downhill.
